Intro
Our Learndirect centre in Whitehaven, Cumbria provides the ECDL - European Computer Driving Licence, an internationally recognised qualification which enables people to demonstrate their competence in computer skills. The record breaking ECDL is the fastest growing IT user qualification in over 125 countries.

ECDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to develop their IT skills and enhance their career prospects. No prior knowledge of IT or computer skills is needed to study ECDL.
Pre-Requisites
No pre-requisites required, full IT diagnostic assessment offered before any testing. Don't panic if you haven't studied for a while, on enrolment you will be given tutor support throughout the duration of your course.
Qualification Levels / Awarding Body

The ECDL is awarded by the British Computer Society to which we are an accredited testing centre. The ECDL itself is split into 2 main components/sub-qualifications, passing both achieves the full ECDL qualification:

  1. BCS IT Users level 1 (Units: Word, Email and Web, Intro to Computing)
  2. BCS IT Users level 2 (Units: Spreadsheets, Databases, Presentations)

Each sub unit takes approximately 8 hours to complete, The units are provided through the learndirect eLearning system allowing you the flexibility to study the units at home or in our centre or mixed its up to you.

Course Delivery Method Testing Method
Mixed - The delivery method is mixed comprising of tutor based support and guidance, eLearning material through learndirect. There are pre-tests to give you confidence and address any short comings before attempting the 50 minute test at the end of each module all are computer based and taken at one of our centres.
Funding / Pricing

Price is subject to your work situation, when enrolling on the ECDL program at the centre in receipt of means tested benefits such as tax credit, job seekers allowance. The ECDL is Free as the course is fully subsidised by the learning and skills council. £0.00

  • - An advisor will get in contact with you to provide you with further information.
  • What to expect at Enrolment
  • - All of our staff are Matrix accredited to give you the best initial advice and guidance possible before enrolment. This process can take between 40mins to an hour.
  • - Once you are enroled you will receive access to the eLearning system and you will be able to access your course, exam results tutor notes from any internet ready PC meeting our system requirements.
